THE
BLACK EDITION ENGINE OVERHAUL PROCESS:
ELECTROSTATIC POWDERCOATED
| This unique FAA accepted dry coating process is proprietary to "Power
By Victor" engines and has become a trademark of our lasting
engine quality. Production built engines come with little or no corrosion
protection and are subjected to oxide corrosion of the crankcase in a
very short time. As a result, Victor has developed a unique process to
protect your investment with the application of a special Black
Edition II powdercoat. |

This is a dry coating in which electrostatically charged particles of
special resins and pigments are sprayed onto the crankcase and related
components. The engine's power section is first assembled under torque and
all machined surfaces are protected from powder application. Then the engine
is pre-heated to relieve the aluminum parts from hydrogen gas pockets that
collect within the case material. After degassing of the assembly, the
engine
goes to the powdercoat lab, the engine block is charged negatively and
positively-charged powdercoat particles are applied. After powder
application, the entire power section goes into a curing oven where the
powder melts and saturates into the porous surface cavities of the
crankcase,
sealing off all air pockets. This fusion of powder application fills the
rough, porous surface to prevent corrosion and reduces surface fatigue, one
of the major contributors to crankcase cracking. The engine is then
dissembled and prepared for final engine assembly.
Many other external parts of the engine are also hand prepared and treated
with powder to provide for the finest finishing process available. Another
distinct advantage of powdercoating is that the surface of the engine
case becomes smooth instead of its rough original finish. This change
in surface smoothness aids in a more equal dispersion of heat from the
engine and further reduces the risk of crankcase cracking while improving
the rate of heat dispersion. The black color pigment is significant because
it aids in heat dispersion. Automobile manufacturers finish all engine
radiators in black for this very reason. Powdercoat application is another
demonstration of how far the "Power By Victor"
commitment goes to insure lasting, superior quality in every
Black Edition II Engine.
