Engine thrust also may be increased by reducing the amount of power wasted in attempting to offset counterbalancing forces induced by out-of-balance internal components. Reciprocating mass is made up of the piston, piston pin and plugs and the upper half of the connecting rod assembly. Improving reciprocating parts balance allows the engine to deliver more power to the propeller, and the engine becomes more efficient with less wear on internal moving parts. When we balance an engine, not only are opposing reciprocating masses balanced within one gram, we balance the engine's front and rear mass assemblies in the same fashion. Don't be fooled by other companies that say they are balancing an engine by installing balanced pistons and rods, because only the upper half of the rod assembly and accumulative upper end weight applies in real time mass movement. This requires very sophisticated equipment and specially trained machinists to properly correct.
