SURFACE SHOT PEENING OF METAL PARTS
Aircraft engine parts may be Shot Peened by optional request of the owner via the use of impingement of metallic shot or other media for the purpose of increasing parts fatigue strength and resistance to stress corrosion cracking by inducing residual compressive stresses in specified surfaces.
This process is performed by propelling dry metallic shot or other media by air pressure or centrifugal force against the parts. After this process the parts are tested for uniformity in accordance with the original manufacturer’s specifications. If any parts are found to not meet the original parts manufacturer’s specifications they will be rejected or repaired.
